Help with your van, your shopping and tomorrow’s kit.

Using your version of VanBrain

Your tools are stored on this iPhone. You can use VanBrain without an account. Keep backups of important records and photos; your inventory does not synchronise between devices.

In My tools, open More. If Your account is shown, the sign-in, password-reset and account instructions below apply to your version. Some beta versions have no account controls. You can still use their device-only van; contact support if you need help with an account used in another version. Do not delete or reinstall the app to look for account controls.

Keep your records safe

In My tools, open More, choose Export data, then choose Export saved data. To include photos, choose Backup with tool photos and select the photos you want to keep.

Restore previews your backup first. It adds missing records and keeps existing records and photos. Selected supplier offers are not backed up. Restoration does not place orders or confirm purchases. Available buying links are checked against the current catalogue rather than restored from your backup.

Do not delete or reinstall VanBrain to fix a problem before backing up. An export contains saved records, not unsaved changes.

Signing in and resetting your password

In versions with accounts enabled, in My tools, open More, then Your account. Accounts are optional; your device-only van can be used without signing in. Creating an account does not automatically copy your existing records or enable multi-device inventory sync.

For an email account, follow the confirmation email before signing in. To reset your password, enter your email address under Sign in with email, then choose Forgot password? Open the newest reset email on the iPhone with VanBrain installed and follow the app’s Choose a new password screen. Use at least 8 characters. If the reset link fails or has expired, request a new reset link. If your email is already confirmed, use your existing password to sign in; a failed sign-in does not by itself mean you need another confirmation email.

To leave Choose a new password without changing it, choose Cancel reset and sign out. You can then continue without an account or return to email sign-in. Never send us your password, authentication codes or confirmation/reset links.

Finding your records after signing in

Each account has separate local records. Signing in does not move your device-only records. In Your account, choose Copy my existing device data and review the preview before copying. The originals are kept and existing account records are not overwritten. Signing out returns you to your separate device-only records.

Signing out

In versions with accounts enabled, open Your account and choose Sign out. Signing out ends this device’s session; it does not delete your account or its saved records. Device-only records and signed-in account records are separate. Multi-device inventory sync is not available.

Deleting your account

For versions with accounts enabled, export any account records and photos you want to keep first. In Your account, choose Delete my account and read the permanent-deletion explanation. Type DELETE to enable confirmation. For an email account, choose Permanently delete my account; for an Apple account, authorise with Apple again when requested.

This action cannot be undone. It is intended to remove your sign-in account and that account’s local van data while keeping separate device-only records and other accounts. If completion is uncertain, follow Check deletion status in the app rather than assuming deletion succeeded. Contact support if you cannot complete the process; do not send passwords, reset links or inventory backups. Exported copies and provider operational records have separate handling described in the privacy notice.

A change will not save

Keep the editor open, read the message and correct the problem before trying Save again. If a record changed elsewhere, cancel and reopen it to see the latest saved version.

A tool or consumable is missing

You can add a tool manually with its exact brand and model. Your own consumable references are notes, not verified matches. Check the manufacturer’s instructions before choosing a consumable.

Your app version and Shopping

Version 1.0 has Amazon buying links disabled. Version 1.0.1 restores external Amazon UK links for verified catalogue items; install the update when it becomes available. Retrying your connection cannot change the purchasing setting in version 1.0. Manufacturer references and Shopping planning remain available in both versions.

The following guidance applies to version 1.0.1 and other builds with buying controls enabled.

Opening Amazon does not place an order or transfer your list quantity. Using Buy on Amazon directly on a Shopping row ticks that item off after the link opens; untick it if you still need it. Opening Amazon through View buying options leaves the item needed. Tick it off yourself after buying. Check the exact product and quantity before buying. Contact the retailer about orders, delivery or returns.
